The Excavation of Hob’s Barrow

Thomasina Bateman, an antiquarian has been writing a book about the ancient barrows of England. It’s a record of the treasures she finds in. A mysterious letter invites her to the tiny village of Bewlay located in the remote countryside she embarks on train along with her friend one day late.
The man who summoned her to help is not there upon her arrival. Her assistant never arrives. Landowners are obstinate and refuse acces to his barrow. The locals are afraid of this woman and she travels on her own. wears trousers.
